Key points about the POM routine (not included in pdf)

Preparation

  1. Control Checks: Adjust your seat, mirrors, and steering wheel for optimal control and visibility.
  2. Gear Selection: Ensure the vehicle is in the correct gear for the manoeuvre.
  3. Hand Position: Place your hands on the steering wheel at the ‘ten and two’ or ‘nine and three’ positions.

Observation

  1. Mirror Check: Regularly check your rear-view and side mirrors to understand the traffic behind and beside you.
  2. Blind Spot Check: Turn your head to check blind spots that mirrors can’t cover.
  3. Signal Intentions: Use indicators well in advance to communicate your intentions to other road users.
  4. Environmental Awareness: Continuously scan the road ahead, checking for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. Assess potential hazards.

Manoeuvre

  1. Smooth Execution: Start the manoeuvre gently, using smooth acceleration and steering movements.
  2. Speed Control: Adjust your speed appropriately for the manoeuvre and road conditions.
  3. Ongoing Observation: Keep checking mirrors and blind spots throughout the manoeuvre.
  4. Completion: Ensure the manoeuvre is completed safely and smoothly, merging seamlessly back into the flow of traffic.
